Stress has always been present in the work environment and recently, more attention is drawn to this stress. The aim of this research is to see which aesthetic parameters are appropriate to visualise collective stress in the open office environment.
To research which parameters visualise collective stress best, participants with different occupations and different nationalities were interviewed. The quantitative data, gathered by using a questionnaire, was analysed using a boxplot for graphically displaying summary statistics. The qualitative data from the interviews was analysed using a thematic analysis approach.
From this, we were able to conclude that the appearance is rather personal. Multiple parameters are suitable to visualise collective stress depending on the individual. However, participants did all state they were able to associate the movement of the artifacts to stress in the environment, meaning the artifacts did have one aesthetic parameter in common that was able to visualise collective stress.
